Dr. Farrell specializes in U.S.-Japan business affairs and management. He lived in Japan for twelve years, is proficient in the language, and has many years of direct experience with a wide array of management, regulatory, and public relations challenges. He currently serves as Chairman of the National Association of Japan America Societies.
From 1990 to mid-1995, he was Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. Immediately prior to joining DSA, Dr. Farrell was an Advanced Research Fellow at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs. From 1982 to 1990 he taught senior government executives as a Professor of Management at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
A student of bilateral relations for three decades, Dr. Farrell has contributed articles and commentary to many Japanese and English media organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Florida State University and a B.A. from Fordham University. His most recent book, Crisis and Opportunity in a Changing Japan, was published in October 1999 by Quorum Books.
